PRESERVATION

Revitalizing History, Supporting Community

At Glenwood Cemetery, preservation means more than protecting headstones—it means restoring a vibrant public space that contributes to the health and beauty of Flint. Our ongoing work is transforming Glenwood into a welcoming, active part of the city, where history, nature, and community come together.

Through collaboration with local volunteers and the University of Michigan–Flint’s cemetery preservation program, we are training the next generation of public historians and preservation professionals. Under the guidance of Dr. Thomas Henthorn, students learn how to assess conditions, clean gravestones, and perform careful repairs using the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation.

These efforts are not just preserving history—they’re uplifting the neighborhoods around Glenwood, contributing to Flint’s broader revitalization by creating a space for reflection, recreation, and connection.
